I couldn't do it. I gave up on the full face mask with my CPAP, and took to wearing the ol' ComfortGel Profile Petite nasal mask that I have and the mummy wrap chin strap. The only problem is, the mummy wrap chinstrap still doesn't quite hold my mouth shut, but it is a little better, and some nights it seems to work.
At least now I don't wake up with sores on my face. And the leakage on my nasal mask doesn't violate the noise ordinance.
I do feel like I'm sleeping a bit better, but I still wake up several times a night. Think it's the PLMD? I dunno. Could be. And I'm still tired during the day. Once again, it's a weird, heavy, sort of sick tired.
I could try Requip again, I guess, and see if I sleep better, but somehow I don't think that's really the answer. My sleep doctor didn't seem to think it was either.
Also had an attack of killer migraines, because, I'm guessing, I'm not sleeping well still. Not that that causes them directly... What happens is I don't sleep well, I get forgetful and sometimes even do things on autopilot. One thing that I either forget or do on autopilot is take my pills. (See where this is going?) So for the last two days, I forgot all my pills, one of which was inderal, a beta blocker which also treats migraines. (I don't need a beta blocker, but man, that does help the migraines).
Today I almost forgot them again, but fortunately realized my bottles were all undisturbed on the counter, and took them a little late. Voila, no more migraines today, after two days of some of the most agonizing head pain ever.
On the upside, spring has sprung. And that's always nice.
I'm a 34 year old woman with multiple sleep disorders (sigh). Sleeping's been a lifelong sort of love hate thing for me. I had my first polysomnography in 2001, and I was told I was "fine." Turns out, from my history and the muscle tone that the PSG returned, I showed signs of REM Behavior Disorder.
Fast forward three years, where my neurologist, on hearing my reports of ungodly fatigue (more like someone turned up the gravity) and daily headaches, declared I needed a sleep study.
That time they found moderate obstructive apnea.
Did my CPAP titration, wear it dutifully. But I was still so tired. I mean, tired like I was smote from on high. So two weeks ago, I had a re-titration.
They discovered (this time) I needed my CPAP turned up and I have Periodic Limb Movement in Sleep Disorder. I also have an extremely abnormal sleep architecture.
What I wouldn't give to sleep through the night!
