Cape May, New Jersey Plans to Make Half of Their Beaches ADA-Compliant:
Cape May has announced its plan to make half the city's 20 beaches among the most ADA compliant on the coast, beginning with four beaches in the coming year. This will include a 50 percent increase in handicapped parking spaces at the selected beaches, replacing stairs with ramps, building walkways to the dunes and high tide line, and increasing the number of beach wheelchairs available. The belief is that the plan could pay for itself through increased business. Says Mayor Ed Mahaney, “You make the town more accessible for ADA accommodations, and then you have more people coming because they know it's a friendly town to the disabled".
