    Quad Friendly Cell Phones

  • 95% of the population in the US has a cell phone. Many of us would be lost without our phone. Whether you use a smart phone with all the bells and whistles or a basic cell phone that you carry around for emergencies only, we all know that lil gadget can be a life saver.
Having a C6 SCI, I'm very mindful of gadgets and being able use them with my limited hand movement. I currently use a smart phone by Samsung. It's called the Instinct. This particular phone has a touch screen interface where you touch the actual screen to operate the phone.  I find that this phone has many features which are very quad friendly. The only draw back I found was a small button that needs to be press down to unlock the screen. The screen is locked to avoid accidental use of the phone when you carry it.  So every time you go to use the phone you need to press the buttom. Overall though the gentle touch of your hand will get you going to live tv, streaming music, internet, and calling everyone you know. Plus it has boothtooth which adds to the hands free features. Personally I think its a very Quad Friendly phone.
Now, I'd like to hear from you to see if you use a cell phone for safety purposes cause of your disability or for just the cool factor and if you have a phone you really like tell me about it or if you really hate it... lets hear about it too?

While actually designed for the geriatric population, and without all of the fancy bells and whistles (no camera, for example) you might want to take a look at the Jitterbug phone: http://www.jitterbug.com/

The large buttons and simple function buttons would make it much easier to use for someone with limited hand function.
