Meet Janelle and Michelle. They came up with the idea because they were running across so much information regarding the paralysis community that was above and beyond what they were expecting to find, that they asked for a place to start putting.

I'm no fool. When people went to work hard, I say, "Sure!" Here is a place for them to park info that we haven't found a place for yet, to talk about works in progress, or just add tidbits they have run across.

Feel free to comment on them and keep them honest.

Rob

2009 Holiday Gift Guide for People in Wheelchairs

Don't be intimidated when shopping for a gift for someone in a

Hi, my name is Wade Stinson in Troy, Alabama. I have been a quadriplegic for 34 years after a diving accident at seventeen years of age. I have just completed my autobiography recounting my life---accident, recovery, and adjustments living as a quadriplegic. I was an English teacher and identified with the tragedies too often associated with the results of reckless youth. One of the objectives of my book is to warn both young and old of the consequences of careless and misguided acts.

I would appreciate it if you would consider my book. The title is, BETWEEN GRIEF AND NOTHING by Wade Stinson and it is available at amazon.com barnesandnoble.com and my personal website http://betweengriefandnothing.com

I apologize for the bother but I believe I have accomplished a worthy attempt at portraying the emotional and physical dilemma of paralysis along with the process of adjustment and productive living as a paralysis victim.

Thank you,

I'm here to ask for your guidance

& participation in knowing the Cure. My idea came to me after a long time illness (16 yrs) that I confirmed from mercury poisoning. It sound odd but concrete. For all that years I was paralyzed by pain, spasm, fear & muscle weakness. I believed that the solution is inside our mouth. The closest organ to our brain & structurally similar in anatomy ,morphology & chronology. I like to share this piece of my study at this stage for reasons that if someone out there had think of it , I like to say that we have an obligation to finish or the least is spread this word to others. There is nothing to lose too much to gain. People's lives are at stake.

I believed that since the teeth is both sensory & motor organ , the only organs in our body besides the brain, that can multitask, its anatomy, morphology is quite the same, chances are they are connectd by feeling or by function to each other.

If I may suggest to you to take a chance to start to stimulate the teeth especially the 5th nerve , called the Trigeminal Nerve. Restore this function first. By stimulating this center, it is connected to the brain & the brain will command down to spinal chord. When I lost all my teeth on the upper jaw, I noticed so much improvement in my health. The point is this, that my body is weakened due to the poison emitted by the metal attach to my teeth killing the sensory/motor function of my brain. Therefore I can conclude that there is a direct connection between my teeth & my brain. In the event that the brain is damaged due to accident or any other means is the same way. Different pathway/etiology but the same end result. You may ask why not stimulate the muscle affected instead rather than the teeth? First, the teeth is in close contact with the brain. Two, the teeth has the ability to multitask compare to any organ in our body.Three, when the teeth is in motion it is capable of firing electrical current (galvanic) that any other organs cannot.Four, is it a coincidence that we have 16 sets of the same nature corresponding the 16 major centers of our brain? And the 16 areas of the vertebral column?Think about the numbers Mother Nature gave us? At this writing what I cannot prove is the compatibility of the structures the teeth & brain is made of becoz it is in my lab ,I just started growing them but these data are too good to pass which is if it means one moment of relief , I am ecstatic to know.

This is still a hypotheses, only a few days old. I will be looking for feedback to facilitate faster results. To anybody interested in sharing more data ,please do not be intimidated by the American Dental Association. The "Town drunk ". The civil war is way over , time to connect the AMA & the Advancement of Dentistry in this country of US & A.

I am looking forward to your input, critic & inspirations... Mother Nature designated me ,what can I do.

Abilities Expo Anahiem, CA

Hey All!

April 3 (Bloomberg) — The U.S. unemployment rate jumped in March to
the highest level since 1983 and service industries shrank at a faster
pace, indicating the economy remains trapped in what’s likely to be the
longest recession since the 1930s.

Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Donald Kohn said both the Obama
administration and central bank must remain “flexible and open” to
further measures because the economy and financial markets aren’t “out
of the woods yet.” The labor-market rout will make it tougher for
President Barack Obama to follow through on his pledge to save or
create 3.5 million jobs.

The economy lost 663,000 jobs in March, bringing losses since the
slump began to about 5.1 million, the worst in the postwar era, Labor
Department figures showed in Washington. The 8.5 percent jobless rate
was consistent with the forecasts of 79 economists surveyed by
Bloomberg News. The Institute of Supply Management’s non-manufacturing
index unexpectedly dropped.

“We could continue to see a few more months of really bad employment
numbers before it starts to ease,” said Nariman Behravesh, chief
economist at IHS Global Insight in Lexington, Massachusetts. Behravesh
projected the jobless rate will peak between 10 percent and 10.5
percent in early 2010. “We aren’t there yet, but we are getting closer
to a bottom,” he said.

Treasuries, Stocks

Treasuries slumped after the jobs report was no worse than what
economists had forecast, with benchmark 10-year note yields rising as
2.84 percent at 11:42 a.m. in New York, up from 2.77 percent late
yesterday. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Stock Index fell 0.3 percent
to 831.82.

Job cuts have been spreading from manufacturers such as Johnson
Controls Inc. and Dana Holding Corp. to service providers like
International Business Machines Corp. and even the U.S. Postal Service.

In addition to cutting jobs, companies also reduced hours for those
still on payrolls. The average number of hours worked fell to 33.2 per
week, down six minutes from February and the fewest since records began
in 1964.

Revisions subtracted 86,000 workers from January payrolls while February’s drop of 651,000 was not revised.

The last time the unemployment rate was at 8.5 percent was in
November 1983, when the economy was recovering from the 1981- 82
recession that pushed the rate to almost 11 percent. Then Fed Chairman
Paul Volcker boosted interest rates to quell soaring inflation
following the 1970s fuel crisis.

Payroll Forecast

Payrolls were forecast to drop by 660,000, according to the median
of 80 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. Estimates ranged from
losses of 525,000 to 750,000. Forecasts for the jobless rate ranged
from 8.2 percent to 8.7 percent.

“The hope and expectation is that things will get a little less dire
in the second quarter as various stimulus efforts kick in,” said Ethan
Harris, co-head of U.S. economic research at Barclays Capital Inc. in
New York, who used to work at the Fed.

Today’s report showed factory payrolls fell by 161,000 after
declining 169,000 in the prior month. Economists forecast a drop of
160,000. The decrease included a loss of 17,500 jobs in auto
manufacturing and parts industries.

The manufacturing slump that began more than a year ago may
intensify should General Motors Corp. be forced into bankruptcy,
economists said. As many as 1 million additional auto-industry jobs may
be lost and unemployment would climb to 11 percent, said Joseph
LaVorgna, chief U.S. economist at Deutsche Bank Securities in New York.

Auto Slump

The auto slump has already rippled through the industry. Johnson
Controls, a maker of car interiors and batteries, said last month it
will shut 10 factories and cut about 4,000 jobs. Dana, the truck-axle
manufacturer that exited bankruptcy in 2008, said it will boost its
payroll reduction to 5,800 this year, 800 more than previously
announced.

“We are taking the difficult actions necessary to survive,” Dana’s
Chief Executive Officer John Devine said in a March 16 statement.

Service industries, which include banks, insurance companies,
restaurants and retailers, cut 358,000 workers after a 366,000 decline
in February. Financial firms cut payrolls by 43,000, after a 44,000
decrease the prior month. Retail payrolls decreased by 47,800 after a
50,800 drop.

The ISM’s services index, which covers almost 90 percent of the
economy, fell to 40.8, the lowest level of the year, from 41.6 the
prior month, according to the Tempe, Arizona-based group. Readings
below 50 signal contraction.

The measure was projected to increase to 42, according to the median
forecast in a Bloomberg News survey of 67 economists. Estimates ranged
from 38 to 45.

Fewer Orders

The ISM index of new orders fell to 38.8 from 40.7 the prior month, and its gauge of employment dropped to 32.3 from 37.3.

For many Americans, this employment slump has been an unfamiliar
experience. Sarah Opple, 42, was fired in February from a sales
position at Gaylord Hotels in Chicago after holding a series of jobs in
the hospitality industry since she was 17 years old. “It’s more real to
me now,” she said in a March 26 interview. “This recession is way more
tangible than the others. It makes everyone feel they could be next.”

Since taking office Jan. 20, Obama has enacted a series of measures
aimed at stemming the recession. He signed into law a $787 billion
stimulus plan on Feb. 17 that included spending on infrastructure
projects to boost hiring.

The Treasury Department is also moving to repair the damaged

I am a paraplegic and I am glad to see a new site for us to talk in.

I wanted to share this little story.

I was feeling down and depressed. I had a uti but took my son to see a movie anyway. (He's 8) Part of the movie got a little scary. One of those action scenes where you worry the bad guy might just win. I put my hand on his leg and he said, "It'll be ok. It's always a happy ending in the movies." I found it funny he was trying to reassure me. I guess my real mood showed thorough because I said, "Too bad it's not like that in real life." He just looked over at me and said, "How do you know it isn't?"

That really touched me. I love the innocence and wisdom of a child.

Staying Active

"Living life to fullest is like fuel to the soul"

At this point everything was going along fine. A few odd things happened but I chalked them up to various screw ups. I was supposed to push the blue button and register the Onstar using the last 4 digits of my phone number because the dealer pre-registered it. When I gave them that number, the Onstar lady says “No that’s not it.” Humm..She says have you ever had another car with Onstar. Well yes. I gave her that code and she said…”that’s it” and proceeded to register the car.

About 2 weeks later the dealer calls my husband and says I need to register my Onstar. He calls me with the message and I tell him that must be a mistake because I already did that and even got a diagnostic e-mail on the car.

Another couple of weeks go by and I get 2 letters from Onstar on the same day. Each letter contains an Onstar card showing different car phone numbers. Humm…I call my husband’s cell phone from the car to figure out the correct number. OK one is right, the other is not. OK another screw up I assume. I throw the wrong card away.

Here's the kicker, in another few weeks, the dealer calls again to tell me that I have the wrong car. The car they sold me, that I titled and registered with the BMV, is sitting on their lot. The car I am driving they have reported stolen because it came up missing during an inventory audit the previous week. And guess what, they notified Onstar to track this stolen car and found out I had it. Yes, I have been driving this car for 6 weeks before they figure it out. I’ve got nearly 1000 miles on it, have taken my hairy golden retriever to the vet in it, and have run it through the car wash twice. Now they want me to bring it back and get my real car.

OK I’m game. That seems like the easiest solution for me since I have the other one titled and registered already. So I did and got to enjoy that new car smell all over again. I guess the moral of this story is that you should check the VIN number of the car with your paperwork before you drive it off the lot. Only in my world can this stuff happen.

Abilities Expo New York Metro Area Show

Hey All !

I don't come here a lot but I try. I have told a few people about this and one said he didn't see a forum. I'm not sure if the site administrator is aware of this. On the main page I now know to look at the bottom to see excerpts of posts and click on one of those. There is no easy link to just click forums though. If you aren't already aware of a forum you probably wouldn't know to come in here. I even hit search and typed in forum. I got a list of results but when I clicked one I got a weird screen. It did not bring me in here. I got in here by a lot of random clicking and almost gave up. Is anyone else aware of this?

I have been to this site a lot clicking around looking for resources and only a few months ago found the forum. It took me even longer to find the library. I am by no means a computer expert but it seems like this should work a little easier. I would like to see more traffic here and I think that may help.

Fuschia Fan-I need your help

Hello Fuschia Fan. Awhile back on another site you mentioned to me an organization that deals with disabled RN's. I was unable to find that post, and had to do some looking to find you. I am glad to find you here, you are so helpful both professionally and personally. Unfortunately, I let my nursing license expire and am now trying to go through the renewal process which involves a refresher course and am looking for any kind of assistance I might be able to get to do that. I am currently living in North Dakota, and am working with the NDNA, and NDBON, but would appreciate any suggestions you might have for financial as well as any other assistance to support me in this process. Thanks!!!

NJ: Developing and Maintaining An Effective Self-Help Group

New Jersey Self-Help Group Clearinghouse

On a good day this only takes a few minutes.) But today I was having trouble getting the wheel attached, the frame wasn't positioned ideally, and a cold wind blowing kept blowing my hair in my eyes. I was leaning out of the car, trying to put the axle pin in place, and it wasn;t working. What I should have done of course was bring the wheel back in, reposition the frame, and start again, but I didn;t want to take the extra time, I stubbornly kept at it all the while realizing that the wheel was also on the verge of falling off completely, and land out of my reach in the parking lot.

Meanwhile an older woman (I really shouldn;t have called her an old lady, she was actually only a little older than my mother, probably in her late 70s) came out of the building, got into her car and started to leave. She circled the lot, and pulled in next to me, got out of her car, and asked if I needed help. And yes, actually I did. So she helped me get the wheels in, and went on her way. And I got out of the car and continued on my way.

So yea, that was my day.

What about you?
