Dr. Dan has been under the weather

Dan wanted me to let you guys know that he has not been feeling well recently. He is in the hospital recovering from pneumonia. He is hoping to be back home by the middle of this week.

He sends his best, and is anxious to get back to work!

    Dan,

I second that comment.  Rest, relax and take care of yourself.  I hear that 20 minutes of focused breathing can do wonders.  Plus maybe it will help your lungs too.

Get well soon.  We miss you!

Re: Dr. Dan has been under the weather

after 10 glorious days in the hospital, I returned home last week to finish healing. After 10 days at home, my lungs are clear, I am off oxygen, and I have as much energy as a lawn ornament!

But I am better and I will get better.

And now I have something else to be grateful for. I can breathe without coughing. And every time I am conscious of my breath, the air tastes sweeter than it did before. My lungs somehow feel like they are more open to this gift of their. And they give back a carbon dioxide freely without agitation and coughing.

The process is simple and beautiful and I treasure it.

I am so thankful to you all for your caring and your kind words. I am confident it helped.

So now, it might be time to change the name of this thread.

    Thank you my friends

Re: Dr. Dan has been under the weather

I went in to the radio station yesterday to do my show for the first time in a month. I was nervous and insecure even though I had been doing the show for 20 years. My stamina is not yet back to normal and I have been struggling with hypotension. To make matters worse, I had catheter problems in the hospital and now I have a yeast infection in places that I don't like thinking about.

I was embraced by all of my dear friends at the station who care very deeply about me and I about them.
But the anxiety was all my own and once again, I felt part of the larger community and very different at the same time.
Such is the nature of disability and our families. Sad to feel alone in the midst of all of this love.
One of the many things I've learned over these 30 years (and next week will be exactly 30 years) is that there is nothing to do when sad or painful emotions crop up. Yesterday was my time of being loved, feeling alone and feeling sad about that (okay, a bit of self-pity also). But these emotions are not call to action or a symptom that anything is wrong. Yesterday was my life in living color. So is today, and all of those emotions have given way to lots of others.

As many of you know my grandson Sam is on the autism spectrum. He was having Thanksgiving dinner this year when a conversation was brought up at the table about "nine lives". After dinner he asked his mother what that phrase meant. When she explained, he looked down at his fingers and said: "now let's see, first pop had his accident. Then he had that real bad operation. And then he had that awful infection (MRSA) and now the pneumonia." He looked down at his fingers as though he was doing the math and then he looked up at his mother and said: "so I guess we are doing pretty good!"

Indeed Sam, we are doing pretty good.
