Use of FES in SCI patient

    Hi Fuschia Fan,

I am so glad I found you here. You helped me alot with my daughter's SCI and TBI ( hit an run accident 2005) questions on another site. She has progressed well and now able to walk with RGO's and a walker with 1 person assist about 100 feet. Her ataxia from the head injury makes it impossible for her to be independent, so we are looking at using a Mulholland Walker with it. She is also unable to don and doff the RGO's independently. She wants to be a school teacher and so desires to be functionally ambulatory in a classroom even if it is nearly impossible for ambulation outside. She recently saw a You Tube video of a man with SCI thoracic level, total paralysis that was walking with the aid of an FES system.  What do you think about this and have you actually seen patients using this functionally. I could only find sites in Cleveland ( the PARAWALK SYSTEM) and another .. I think Chicago. We are in So California so I thought maybe at Rancho Los Amigos, but I don't see anything on their website.  Could you point us in the right direction.... any thoughts on MediCal with funding such a device. I believe it is FDA approved since 1994.  Thank you, Patricia ( mom of Ariana now 22 and attending a 2 year college to one day become a school teacher)
