    Forum is hard to find

I'm on a different computer today and had a hard time finding this forum. On my home computer I have the link saved.

I don't come here a lot but I try. I have told a few people about this and one said he didn't see a forum. I'm not sure if the site administrator is aware of this. On the main page I now know to look at the bottom to see excerpts of posts and click on one of those. There is no easy link to just click forums though. If you aren't already aware of a forum you probably wouldn't know to come in here. I even hit search and typed in forum. I got a list of results but when I clicked one I got a weird screen. It did not bring me in here. I got in here by a lot of random clicking and almost gave up. Is anyone else aware of this?

I have been to this site a lot clicking around looking for resources and only a few months ago found the forum. It took me even longer to find the library. I am by no means a computer expert but it seems like this should work a little easier. I would like to see more traffic here and I think that may help.

Reallu good point.  I have trouble getting here is I switch computers myself.  I think you are right that people who don't know it is here, won't find it at all.

You guys are not the first to say this. We need to make some changes.

    Any suggestions?

Just so you know for now, at the very top right of every page is the COMMUNITY link between DONATE and SHOP FOR A CURE.

Re: Forum is hard to find

Maybe put community forum somewhere instead of just community. Or a little something in that lower corner with the excerpts that invites you to ask questions or participate. I was most concerned when I searched the site for forum and it brought it up but wouldn't link me to it.

This site has a wealth of information but most of it seems buried. I will find something and want to go back to it later but never be able to find it again.

See now I can't even find that library. I don't think the search function works here at all.

Re: Forum is hard to find

Funny because I thought the word Community was more clear than forums. You find both about equally out there. So I change the PRC and HP line to read:Visit our support community and forums. Will see if that helps.

What library are you referring to? And what search are you using. The one in the community or on the rest of the web site?

Re: Forum is hard to find

I think a lot of it is that there is SO much information here.  (Not a bad thing!)  The Paralysis Resource Center was the first online site I used in order to get info after I was hurt.  We had a "computer course" in rehab.  She handled any adaptations anyone needed, as well as using the internet and finding trustworthy information.  She had us all start here.  Smile [:)]

I never found the message board then.  I was pretty computer savy, and had used the internet a lot before I was hurt, but had never participated with any online communuties.  I didn;t even realize they were so prolific.  I was several months out before I found any, I think Apparalyzed was the first one.

IfOnly , is this the Library link you are talking about?

I found it by going the the Paralysis Resource Center.  and scrollling down for the Quick Links.  I had found it before myself, but only by accident.  If I use the search box, when on the PRC page, I find it, if I search for "library" on the main page, I only find "about the Paralysis Resource Center" .... which I NOW know will tell me about the library.   It will actually mail books out to members!  A fantastic opportunity, especially for newly injured people.  I know my libraries didn;t have much up to date information on SCI when I went hunting.

Yes that is the library. I suppose I am lazy. I wanted to type library in the search engine and it take me to the library. I didn't want to read all of that last night to figure out where it is. I love that it mails you books though. There is a lot of information here and I love this site. I wish I had known about it in rehab. They told us nothing that I remember about the websites available or the strange people you may run across on some of them.

Thanks for working to improve the site.

Re: Forum is hard to find

We were actually the first group.  There were some college interns involved, it may have been a project.  I liked the fact that I could get online once I was able to get up.  They were also piloting a way of using the internet via the tc's in the room.  I found it clumsy, but if you were stuck specifically in bed, it would have been nice.

This site was given to us, as a trusted place for accurate information.  Big Smile [:D]

The other site I specifically remember was Northeast Passage.
At one point, we had a scavenger hunt tyoe lesson, to find the answer to some sci related Q's.  It was actually kind of fun.  Some of the other people were pretty set against even using the computer, and gave her a hard time, so I think that colored my efforts.Wink [;)]

It isn;t that you are lazy, I know I get discouraged when I can;t find things, and quit searching, or even assume the info isn;t there.   There are some places I have learned to bookmark things .... I know I might never find it again!
