Subject: Nickelodeon News looking to speak to kids with spinal cord
    injuries

    Hello,
I am a coordinating producer for Nick News with Linda Ellerbee, a
kids' television news program that airs on Nickelodeon. We take
headline news stories and explain them to kids between the ages of
    11-14.

One of the Special Editions that Nick News produces each year, is
called Nick News Adventure. Here we have taken a group of kids from
all around the country on adventure trips such as hiking through the
Amazon, rafting down the Colorado River, and training elephants in
    Taiwan.

We try hard to highlight a diverse range of kids on our show, and
always think about how we could include kids with disabilities on our
adventures. So far, many of them have been so physical, that it would
be difficult to include kids with disabilities.

We producing an adventure where kids take part on a Zero G
experience (Stephen Hawkings recently did this). We thought this would
be an adventure that kids with disabilities could take part in, and
    may enjoy doing.

At this point, we are hoping to talk to some kids who are in
wheelchairs because of spinal cord injuries who may be interested in
    something
like this and would be willing to talk to me about why they would want
to be part of such an
    adventure.

Do you have any kids between the ages of 11-14 that you would
recommend I speak to? We try to represent a variety of ethnic
backgrounds too, so minority kids with spinal injuries would be
especially good to talk to. If so, if you could let me know as soon as
    possible.

I can be reached by e-mail or by phone
    at 609-279-0863.

I have attached some press info about Nick News for you as well.

    Thanks for your time,

    Kara Pothier

    Hi there,

My son Patrick would love to try this! Patrick is 14 years old and has a spinal cord injury due to an accident when he was a toddler. He and I were walking behind a car when the driver, who was arguing with his girlfriend, suddenly backed up pinning Patrick under the car. He's a incredible young man and active in the SCI community. He's an ambassador for Life Rolls On and speaks regulary to youth groups about SCI awareness and just living your life to the fullest. He plays wheelchair sports and surfs all over southern california on an adaptive surfboard.

He has a website at www.helppatrickwalk.org if you want to read more about him or on myspace at www.myspace.com/helppatrickwalk

Thank you and hope to hear from you!

    Jennifer

Jennifer: You need to refer Patrick directly to Nickelodean, call the number listed or shoot them an email.

Having met Patrick, I too think he would be excellent. Keep us posted!

    Thank you,

Every day I wake up is a good one.
