She's making a solo sail around Britain

Hilary Lister aims to become the first disabled woman to sail solo around Britain. She's controlling the boat with a "sip and puff" system. Lister was paralyzed at the age of 15, due to a progressive neurological disorder. Now 36, she is an accomplished sailor having " ... first came to prominence when, in 2005, she became the first disabled sailor to cross the English Channel, single-handed. In 2007 she became the first disabled woman to sail around the Isle of Wight."

Her website is great. Her crew is Twittering, and there's a Google map tracking her progress.

Wow. So, a wheelchair at the North Pole and sail boating solo from one, and it's still spring. What a summer this is going to be!

About gerthro

I lived all my life in and around the Philadelphia area. Went to Temple University, taught television production at Plymouth Whitemarsh high school. In the meantime, I've had lots of jobs in television and multimedia. I left my position as the managing editor of MensHealth.com to come to the Reeve Foundation as the manager of online communications in 2007.
