    35 mm film camera?

    My dh is spending part of the day going through *stuff* in our rec room (rah for him!)...

    He has a nice film camera, complete with telephoto lens, etc. Of course, now we have a digital camera that is so much easier to use...Any ideas about what we could do with that old camera? Would anyone actually buy/accept it on a place like ebay or craigslist? It is a nice model, but not a unique one of a kind thing at all...It's so nice I hate to suggest we throw it out, but our kids sure wouldn't want it (no kids). It seems kind of useless just parked on a shelf, if we never have any use for it...

    Any ideas?

    You might could take it to a pawn shop? Just a thought. I know that a lot of people get pretty leary of buying electronics on sites like ebay, because it's too easy to run into crooks. KWIM?

    Craigslist might be the way to go.  Since people tend to buy things off CL from locals, there's less of a chance of ripoff, especially because you usually pay and pick up the item at the person's house.  Plus, there are no auction prices and signups to mess with.  I've used Craigslist several times with no bad results.  I'd say that the chances are pretty good that someone will be interested in your camera.

    You can easily sell it anywhere.  My daughter wants one.  Her aunt and uncle are professional photographers----(not weddings----real photographers of art).  They have inspired her to pursue art herself.  I think anyone who is interested in photography as an art will want a real 35 mm camera as an addition to digital.  You can't create the same type of art with a digital.

    What brand and model is it?

    The lens from any relatively recent autofocus camera from Canon or Nikon will work on their current digital cameras that have changeable lenses. Depending on how serious you and he are about photography, maybe one of those cameras is something you'd be considering in the future.

    If the film camera is older,not autofocus the market and value is going to be pretty small (probably well under $50) so one thing to do in that case would be to donate it to a school that still teacher photography with film.

    If I had the extra cash, I'd offer to buy it.  Maybe I'm just lazy, but I'm also kinda addicted to my point and shoot.

    Oh, so here's where I put my signature. Unfortunately, I don't have anything cute or profound to say today. :)

    Hmm. Okay. Thanks for the ideas. It's an older model (is mid 1980s older?) Minolta...we have a point and shoot digital, so we couldn't use the lenses on it...I've seen some similar models posted on craigslist for $50 - $100, but of course, I can't tell if anyone has actually bought those cameras, or if the seller simply has given up...my dh is a bit of a photography buff, but even he can't see the use for a film camera, with all of the wonderful digital cameras out, and with the photoediting software for the computers....well, we'll try craigslist - what have we got to lose? :-}
