    antidepressants

I have been on zoloft, but my dock just changed me to effexor since we were trying one that isn't supposed to cause weight gain.  Anyone on this and found it to be one that really doesn't cause weight gain?  thanks, Gal

    Re: antidepressants

I take prozac.  So does my daughter.  Neither of us have had a problem with weight gain.  If anything, it has helped me maintain my weight because I am less prone to eat emotionally.

I would suggest you do a google search on effexor and you'll probablly find a forum where people discuss it and its side afffects.

Just a couple of things you need to know about Effexor:

    • Do not stop taking it suddenly. You can have some serious withdrawal symptoms.
    • If you need to withdraw from it, do it very slowly. Quick withdrawal can cause anger, increased depression, etc. My dad (who has been taking Effexor for quite a while now) even blacked out while withdrawing from it.

I am not trying to scare you. My dad and sister have both taken it and have both had strong reactions to coming off it. If you need to, make sure you consult with your doc.

I've taken Effexor in the past and like iamjabeksa said, it can have some nasty withdrawl symptoms.  It didn't cause weight gain in me either but I avoid taking it now because coming off was such a bear.  I don't know if you've tried Wellbutrin but that drug is known for no weight gain and even weight loss.

i took lexapro for awhile. it changed my life in MANY GOOD WAYS. i gained weight on it, but i was recovering from an eating disorder so i can't really say much........ however, it almost killed my marriage when i came off it. i was INSANE. i know my husband was literally afraid. we were still newlyweds and i had turned into this beast.

    Re: antidepressants

a good friend took effexor, but didn't like the transition off of the meds.

I took prozac for PPD, and lost weight.  It killed my appetite.  It's also one of the $4 monthly prescriptions at Wal-Mart, so it's really cheap without insurance.
