    Office Politics???

I was just wondering if anyone has ever encountered or dealt with office politics. I seem to have run into that myself. (I'll elaborate later. Okay?) Anyway, how do/did you handle it?

It depends on the type of office politics (there are many!) and your specific place concerning the issues.

    What's happening?

Okay. Sorry I'm just now getting to reply.

What I mean is, it seems that the boss's kids get shown a lot of favoritism. I mean, one in particular has been a known trouble maker, and yet he's been allowed to take over the job of someone that recently quit. Then there's the fact that last year we all had to go through pay cuts, but evidently not the boss's kids. Explain me that one???

    I don't know, I guess it's just really frustrating.

If it is a "family-type" small business...I'm afraid there's little that you can do about it.  If it a business with "union" employees or some other kind of public business, you can try consulting the EEOC,  NLRB, or the union representative.  Also, you can check the "regulations" or "labor laws" for your state to determine if any laws have been broken.

    Good luck!

    Blessings!

    Re: Office Politics???

It doesn't sound like a union company to me.

There's really nothing you can do about it.  Even in a larger corporation, there are always favorites who get the promotions and raises.  In small businesses it's usually a friend or a relative.  Plus secrets aren't well kept in smaller companies.  Raises and salaries aren't general knowledge in large corporations.

Even if laws are broken, you're not going to get anywhere at this particular company by blowing the whistle.  You're not going to be happily keeping your job.  If you're not the first to be laid off, you'll definitely be the last considered for a promotion if you try the legal route.

IMHO, you have two choices:  seek other employment or stay.  If you stay, it's important to not let it get you down.  Don't allow yourself to get drawn into the office gossip.  Don't surround yourself with the complainers.  Hearing negativity will only make you miserable about your job.  Focus on the positive reasons you choose to stay.

Thanks for the replies ladies. :-)

I know I need to really pray and seek God's will in this situation. Part of me is like "Time to move on" and another is thinking "Do I really want to go through the stress of job hunting again?" Anyway, thanks for the advice. Much appreciated. :-)
