Why do we do the things we do?

Ok guys...I am 49 years old, but my mind says I am 25.  So I am going back on a fly ball (church softball team, county league) on my heals, instead of turning and running...I jump backwards, miss the ball and whiplash back...smacking my head on the ground.  Today, I have a head ache, sore neck...and last night I pretty much looked like a fool.

Why do we do the things we do?  Is it that I am now single again and want back what I had before marraige?  Who am I tryinig to impress?  It will only be a matter of time before I break something...

Maybe God is setting you up to meet a Godly nurse?  Maybe not.

But if you like softball, play softball.  If you don't really like it, then finish any obligation you have to the team and then don't play anymore.

God didn't send His son to make us happy, He sent His son so we could be Holy!

I will turn 34 before the end of the summer.  :) I am going to university this September to finish a five year course before I can get a degree.  I honestly do not know how I am going to manage school with three young children.  The oldest is 12, middle child is seven and the youngest is five.  You tell me why am I going to do this?  ;)

    Thank you.

TD&H, First, I firmly believe that exercise is hazardous to your health. The number of people injured or dying from exercise.....

But it could have been worse. Several years ago, I responded to a call for a possible heart attack. I walk into the basement exercise room where the guy had been working out as part of his cardiac rehab program to find CPR in progress. He "lived" another 3 days.

Last year, a guy walks into the ER. He had been down the street at a gym working out when he had chest pain. He drives himself to the ER where within 10-15 minutes he was dead.

One night in the ER an ambulance brings in a guy, I guess early 40's. He had been playing softball in a church league. He dove for a ball in the outfield and landed hard, missing the ball. He said he felt a little short of breath but finished the game. Later that evening, he still has trouble breathing and his side hurts so his wife takes him to "doc-in-a-box" (walk in urgent care center). They take some x-rays and call an ambulance to bring him to the hospital. Seems that along with several fractured ribs, he also managed to puncture a lung.

So.. a little whip lash? Learn from it and count your blessings. It could be worse.

I'm north of 40 and am playing basketball for the first time in my life once a week with a group of guys at church. I'm the worst player by several degrees and still have a great time which to me says alot about the quality of the guys I'm playing with. As to why, definitely the exercise. We get just competitive enough so that we'll push ourselves harder than if we were exercising alone.  I have suffered no injuries other than the usual jammed fingers for the first few times but we have has a couple if pretty good ankle sprains and one calf tear.

well...survieved another game (smile); no injury!

Since my divorce...I have gone back in time 24 years to when I was single.  Playing golf, softball, camping...even went skiing a few times last winter.  My mind says I am 24 years old again...while my body is, well...slower!  I miss the old days, when we could go and go and go.  My hope is to get back there...get this old body in shape again!  Why should we have to slow down just because we are old?   Anyone else out there wanting to stay young?  Lets encourage one another to do the things we want to do...and do what it take to get there!

Thanks for all of your responses...
