    Re: Decorating...

You have a beautiful house Kensington!

Wow, you are making me more jealous!  What a beautiful house you have Kens.  :)  God willing, I will get one after five years (hopefully) of working/studying hard.

Thanks for posting the beautiful pics of your house.  My kids saw your pool and would love to go for a swim.  ;)

    Re: Decorating...

Kens - your house is spectacular looking!  Wow. You seem like you are a terrific homemaker. It looks like a "model" home.   Not all of us can have a home like yours, but we can all "keep" our home the way you do. (cleanliness, neatness, cooked meals, etc.. ) Thanks for sharing those beautiful pictures.

    Re: Decorating...

OTOH, we can also have beautiful homes and live like  "sloppy Joe`s" too.  I wanted to be clear that a nice home doesn`t necessarily make  a "neat" home maker, nor does a "dumpy" or "average" home make a "sloppy" homemaker". (not that anyone said this, but I didn`t want to come across that way).

Kens, you and your H seem to make a marvelous team... you keep the indoors looking nice, and your H honors you in keeping the outdoors nice. Or do you guys hire people to do this?  Hey, if you can afford it why not?.?.  I remember you saying that your H built the fence around your pool area, and you were fixing his sandwiches and meeting his needs...  you two really do seem to have a good team system together. You think of "HIM" and he thinks of "YOU".  That is the way it should work in marriages.  <your focus on HIM, and His focus on YOU... NOT on eachother`s faults> I think that should sum it up for all of us.  Have a good evening. :)

    Re: Decorating...

Happy 4th of July Kensington!  It shows in your home how happy you are today and always.  ;)

Not all women can keep a clean house and tidy as yours, but only a clean heart can keep a pure home(maker).

I read this from one of the genuine Proverbs 31 Woman here...If you want to see my house, please, call me first!  If you want to see me, come anytime.

    Re: Decorating...

I have a ton of projects I want to get done before our oldest graduates HS.  She's going to be a junior this year so we have precious little time to get it done and ugh we're so busy!!

We just got home from Texas...drove there & back from Minnesota we were there for 3 days plus the driving time made it a full week...whew that's a drive!  We're leaving again on Monday for the Wisconsin Dells.  I've been putting in TONS of hours at work so I haven't been able to plan it all out much less get started...oy!!!!

I'm going to put in one more solid week and a half of work and then letting my boss know flat out that I am no longer doing anything beyond my 40 straight hours unless they pay me overtime.  I've allowed them to just give me comp time but I'm losing time and money that way.  They haven't had a problem taking advantage that's for sure.

So soon I'll be getting started.  Starting with our upstairs and working my way down.  I can't wait!

How do some of you do this?  Do you make a list of what needs done starting with one room and sort of plan it all out?  What is the most organized way to handle a major redecoration project?

    Re: Decorating...

Organization and follow through is the key to getting things the way you want them.

If you are redoing a total room. Empty it first... totally empty.  Get two boxes... the keep stuff and the "out" stuff, be it going to charity, given to family or friends, or just thrown out... get rid of it. I don't put boxes of "THINGS" I have accumulated in a room up to MAYBE use later... they go.

Then.... a deep clean is in order... windows, sills, woodwork, and floors or carpet...  I can work where it is clean.'

Next... paint.  Pick your paint and paint it...

Then, start putting back things one at a time, your basic furniture needs first.... then... one item at a time, CUTTING yourself off when the room looks just right... STOP there, and let it go.  Enjoy it... don't continue to put things back that will take you past that "Just how I like it"... or "This is what I want it to look like" point.  The rest... put that stuff in a box to be used in another room... or to go out also.

In the bedroom, if I am going to redo a pillow... cover it.. It gets done the same week that I painted and put the furniture back or it goes out and I buy another. You can get toss pillows for 5 dollars, so I am not leaving them laying around waiting to be recoverd. That one in the center on my bed is a recover...  I did it the same day.

I don't do the crowded shelves and stuff in the living room either.. I have a look I want, when I get that... whats left goes somewhere else or I give it away. I have family who will drive out to take my cast offs.... I don't mess with garage sales any more.

BUT... I WOULD if I did not live in the country... I have made MONEY having garage sales!  LOL.

Yep... I make a list...  I get help... My boys and my husband do my painting for me. LOL. Free labor!  I clean my own house.... with the boys doing a few focused chores. My husbands and sons do all of the yard work and caring for the pool.  I just swim. ;-)

When I am doing a room.... I get a few magizines and see what is in and what I like... and then I go shop... more than one place before I purchase anything to use. Once I decide where to get what... I buy.  HTH....

AND HE IS DRESSED IN A ROBE DIPPED IN BLOOD AND HIS NAME IS CALLED, "THE WORD OF GOD"... REVELATION 19:13
