    Re: Parenting Thread #1

Thank you! It is nice to hear that the second time around was much better for breastfeeding. I am hoping when the time comes it will be easier next time. My husband is a sports writer and is able to do that from home. It does not pay well, but when you add in the cost of commuting to an office and child care it all adds up. I would love to find an online nursing teaching job. I already teach parttime at a local college as well as my fulltime job. I finished my Masters a year and a half ago. Do you have a medical background? I finished my masters online. That was the way to go it was easier for me.

Again thanks for sharing your experience. It is always nice to hear from people for have had similar experiences!

Hey ladies.  I had to dig to find our thread :-)

Have any of you had issues with your baby spitting up a lot?  I know all babies are expected to spit due to immature digestive systems.  But, mine spits a lot.

We have an appointment with our homeopath on Wednesday morning, but I'm seeking out opinions from other moms right now.

I have not spoken with the pediatrician about it.  I may bring it up at our next well baby visit in a couple weeks if we don't have  it better controlled by then.

We switched our daughter to Nestle Good Start Soy formula.  Since making the switch, she still spits up, but is at least happy when she does it now!  Before she would fuss through her bottle and scream when we took it away to burp her, then scream even more when she spit up.

She has dealt with pretty bad reflux.  We've taken her to the chiropractor to deal with it.  That has improved significantly, though she still needs a slight adjustment about every 3 weeks.

Has anyone else been through this struggle???  Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Blessings,

    Nicksbride

One of my nephews would projectile vomit after eating (he was nursed) and just eventually out grew it.

On the other hand I had a friend who's baby require surgery to correct it.

Keep praying about it and see what you can do non-surgically first.

I can't remember who it was posted on the stuff to help with milk production, what are you useing and where did you get it from? Is it a tea?

    nicksbride,

The following link provides information about pyloric stenosis, gastroenteritis, and GERD in babies:

    http://kidshealth.org/parent/medical/digestive/pyloric_stenosis.html

My son projectile vomited from the very start in the hospital.  The second night home he had blood in his diaper.  I freaked.  It turned out that he was allergic to milk.  The pediatrician switched him to soy and all of the symptoms disappeared immediately. Since your daughter is still having symptoms, talk to the pediatrician.

    Re: Parenting Thread #1

The first week when Nate was on formula he spit up alot. When I was able to give him only breastmilk he did not do it at all. Then he started doing it all the time. The pediatrician thought it was do to a nasal infection he picked up somewhere. He was holding his breath and trying to eat at the same time because he was unable to breath through his nose. He stopped spitting up after he had treatment for it. Now I have noticed he spits up more. Not projectile like in the past. Sometimes it is quite a bit that comes back up. He had a lot of tummy troubles the first month and a half. Mostly unable to relieve his gas.

When did you start taken your baby to the chiro? I go every few weeks and am thinking about taking him. Did you see any difference other than the reflux being better?

jennabah the stuff I used to increase my milk is called "more milk plus". You can find it at natural foods stores. I got mine at whole foods. It is an herb they have a website

    http://www.motherlove.com/product_more_milk_plus.php

It is made from a bunch of different herbs, fenugreek, thistle, and nettle lea. They have it with and without alcohol base/ I only took it for about a week and got amazing results. I guess it doesnot work for everyone but it is worth a try. They have it in capsules and tinctures. I was told to try the tincture. You take it three times a day and then wean yourself off it. It is like $22.00 for a 2 oz bottle, but I used a little over  half of it. It is worth the try. I will use it again if I need too.

    Take care everyone....

    Re: Parenting Thread #1

My daughter had that problem. I put her on Similac Isomil (soy) and that helped somewhat. What helped more than anything was actually burping her exactly halfway through her feeding. So, if she ate 4 oz then I would burp after she ate 2 oz. The doctor even said this, because what happens is a bubble gets trapped in there and then there is food on top of it, which can also cause them to eat more than they need to.

The other thing that you can try is putting a little bit of cereal in the bottle...that is used for severe reflux to help hold the food down.

    Re: Parenting Thread #1

Thank you ladies for your responses.  You are awesome!

After getting the other formula out of her system, our daughter is doing much better with the amount of food she is spitting up.  She is still happy and loves to eat - so nice after the time we had with her a couple weeks ago!

Havsweets, we do put a little cereal in her bottles - I believe it is helping; it certainly keeps her from eating too fast!

We had our appointment with the homeopath this morning and the Dr. was pleased with how she is doing and with the improvement in her reflux.

Now, if I may get another topic going....DH and I have decided to NOT immunize our daughter.  At least not until she is at least a year old, and then probably just a couple - MMR and Tetanus.  I haven't done a great deal of research, but have observed families we know who are and are not giving shots.  Those kids who have not had shots are much healthier - fewer colds and infections, too.  These kids also have SAHMs, so I know that is a factor to consider.  I also know people whose children have been diagnosed with autism.  They have commented how they wish they had not done shots.  Our daughter did get one Hepatitis shot in the hospital.  We didn't take custody of her until she was 3 days old, so we had no say at that time.

Are there other moms who have chosen to not immunize?  At least not until the children are older?   What research have you done to support your decision?  What kind of reactions have you gotten from your pediatrician?  Ours was not too happy when I said 'no' at Essie's 2 month appointment!

    Blessings,
    Nicksbride
