My dh and I want to do the Alaska cruise for our 20th anni!  Very cool...literally,eh? ;)...that you guys are getting this great trip!  I hope its just wonderful.

Congrats on your baby graduating from high school!  My oldest is finishing up his frosh year...I know how FAST this last few years go.  sigh.  Will she be off to college in the fall?

We don't live in Florida, but sooo understand wanting to get to cooler lands during the summer heat.

Everyone that we’ve talked to that has been on an Alaskan cruise has said it’s been their best vacation.  Did you do a 1 week land tour and 1 week cruise?  We can’t want to go!  Did you do any excursions?  We didn’t book any and are just going to wait until we get there and decide if we want to do anything extra.  Well, my In-laws booked the White Pass Railway in Skagway for us though.

Our daughter is going to the local community college in the fall, so she won’t be leaving home anytime soon.  Time has sure flown by as it seems she was just entering Kindergarten!

Oh! Ü  We haven't gone yet, but are looking into it and trying to save up some for it...or want to start doing that after our cars are paid off this summer and my son's surgery cost is paid off too.  We celebrate 18 years late in the summer and want to go for our 20th.  I REALLY would LOVE to go on a train excursion!  I don't know if we will be able to afford a package that includes that..or if we will be able to swing the trip at all, but BOY have we had fun looking around and reading about the trips online!

I think community college is a wonderful option for kids!  I am hoping that my kids chose that too.  What a good and wonderfully less costly way to take care of the GE requirements.  Plus, they may be able to play a sport at a JC too.  Who knows! Ü

Oh!  I read your post too quickly and thought you already went for your 20th anniversary! But, how exciting to start planning this already!  If you can, try to do the 2 week cruise with the land tour first.  I've heard of others that didn't do the land tour and wished they would have.

Community college will actually be cheaper for us than the Christian school we just just paid for our daughter.  (We were thrilled when our last payment went out last week!)   It seems that many of our daughter's friends are choosing the community college option  first, so she will have some of her friends with her from h.s.

We are taking a 2 week cruise/tour in Alaska very soon!  This is not the “norm” for us, but my DH’s parents are taking all of their “kids” and spouses.  This is something we never dreamed we could do and we feel so blessed to be able to go.

    Hope,

Did you go on your Alaska cruise yet?  If so, how was it?  Do tell.

    Yes, we are back!

It was an amazing, unforgettable vacation!  The scenery and beauty of Alaska was just beautiful.  We started out in Fairbanks and that was interesting because the sun didn’t set…well sunset was supposedly around 12:30 am, but it never seemed like it got dark.  It was very confusing walking around late at night and the sun was still out!

I highly recommend doing a land tour in combination with a cruise.  I felt like we were on 2 separate vacations.  I liked both (especially since we’ve never been on a cruise before), but felt we saw so much more on the land tour.  We did a really interesting 8 hour tour into Denali National Park (about 53 miles into the park) which gave you a good feel of the park and the wildlife there.

To give you an idea of all that we did,  thiis is the tour we were on:  Heart of Alaska Tour

Now we are back to the HOT weather!  We really enjoyed the escape of the heat and being away from everything for 2 weeks.

    Re: Family Vacations

We're going to stay in-state, as usual.  But in Colorado, there are so many things to do.  We went Jeeping in the 13ers last weekend. It was so lush up there this year that it looked like Washington instead of Colorado.  We may go visit my father on the Western Slope (Colorado's Napa Valley).  We're probably going to the Reniassance Festival in a few weeks, and we might take our son to the top of Pike's Peak because he's never been up there. The Democratic Convention's coming to town, and I work in the same building as them, so we might avoid the circus that week and do some driving and exploring.  My co-author and I are planning taking a Saturday to do some filming in southern Colorado to help promote our book.

    Hope,

Sounds like you had a dream of a vacation and I'm so happy to hear how much you enjoyed it!  I have heard so much about Denali National Park and that it's a must see when vacationing there. One day we hope to go as well.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Hey Grand,

My husband went to Colorado on a vacation before we got married and he loved it.  He drove up Pike's Peak and just spent an entire week sight seeing.  He has lot's of neat pictures.  Enjoy your summer!

What kind of book did you co-author?

    Re: Family Vacations

Hubby and I spent 5 days at Disney this week.    It was hot, but mostly in the afternoon.  We got moving early in the mornings and went to the parks at opening.  We got most of the rides done in the morning and focused on shows in the afternoon.

We went swimming four times in the hotel pool over the 5 days.   The parks had special 4th of July events on the 3rd and 4th.  We enjoyed the Magic Kingdom on the 3rd, so we would be park free on the 4th considering that day would be the busiest of all.  Of course, the parks were all pretty full being summer and a holiday week too.  We went swimming twice on the 4th and went to the movies at Downtown Disney.  I got a little sunburned on my face and shoulders. Not too bad.   My arms are pretty tanned.

We tried twice to get into Toy Story Mania at Hollywood Studios, because it's new.  In the morning it had technical problems and then again in the afternoon too.  Other than that we did see everything we had hoped too while there.  I met alot of nice people while out there too.  Talking to girls from Brazil was fun, because we both only understood half of what each other was saying.  They were very sweet and beautiful.

We also, got to see the fireworks from Hollywood Studios and the Magic Kingdom from our hotel on the 4th of July.  That was pretty cool to see both!  They shoot the fireworks extra high for the 4th so they were seen really good.  Disney fireworks are the best!  Disney has really perfected them for sure.

Overall despite the hot afternoons we had alot of fun and the only downside was checking out to come back home, because it just went by way too fast.

    Fun Time!!!
