    Re: Teen Girl Sexually Battered

The basis of the story is a 14 yr old girl was in the pool at the waterpark with her friends when a group of men picked her up and started passing her around, then they unfastened her top so she had to cover her breasts with her arm. The group of men continue to carry her and pull down her bathing suit bottom and assaulted her etc. The girl managed to punch one of them in the face and then the police spotted a man carrying her and stopped it.

Use caution when at water parks.

The police were right there and they didn't see anything until she was being carried out of the pool. Park videos are now being reviewed by authorities.

Witnesses on the news say there were girls upset and crying over what happened. Her friends tried to help her. The park was jam full. That's all I heard so far. We will wait and see how it all comes out.

I think it was two years ago were they had some big event in NY and they showed where several women were sexaully assaulted right in the middle of thousands of people.

    I don't know????

Thats horrendous.I think its that "group metallity " thing..Everyone sees it and thinks someone else will do something..Or the "if nobody else is saying anything maybe nothign os wrong".

A woman was beaten almost to death on a bridge that way.Hundreds of witnesses..Noboby wants to get involved.

I hope the young gril is all right..

    Re: Teen Girl Sexually Battered

Such happenings are appalling, especially in a crowded place. I guess the others may have thought the people concerned were playing around.
But one effect of these incidents on the general population, is it can them afraid to venture out for fear of becoming a victim, when in fact such occurances are quite rare.

One reason people do not intervene is because they don't know whether their intrusion will be welcome. Sometimes it backfires, as the following story in today's newspaper shows. This happened in a city about 100miles from where I live. Admittedly,it was not in daytime in a crowded street, but in a fairly deserted street in the middle of the night, but the principle is the same, and explains why strangers are reluctant to get involved in the domestic matters of other people.

""Hamilton police are appealing for information after a good Samaritan was attacked by a woman he had gone to help early on Sunday.
The 38-year-old man went to help a woman who was shouting at another man at about 1.30am.

"When it looked like the man pushed the woman, our victim has crossed the street to check if she was OK, but when he told the man to leave her alone the woman has turned on him."
A group of women then converged on the would-be rescuer, verbally abusing him as he tried to extract himself from the scene.

One of the women then punched him in the face and, as he pushed her away, a man punched him in the back of the head, knocking him down.
Once on the ground the man has been given a kicking by the group, suffering serious facial injuries including severe bruising, the fracturing of both eye sockets and the breaking of his jaw.""

In posting the above, it is not an attempt to bring gender balance. It just happens to be in today's news. It shows why people mind their own business, unless help is specifically requested. And even then they may assess the situation to see if they can be successful, and not end up becoming a victim themselves. One person will be loathe to tackle a group, unless there are reinforcements available.

    Re: Teen Girl Sexually Battered

It could have been largely misinterpreted by onlookers as something the girl and guys were doing willingly. Its not unheard of to see teens passing one another around like that, and this time it WAS an assault...but the assumption one makes, in a crowd, would be, "wow look at those rowdy kids"

    Cool Im banned TOO.

    Alpha,

That was sad and really hard to read what happened to that who only tried to help.    I am at a lost for words.

On a lesser level, we see that here.

Many folks have suggestions they believe will help families. But instead of being viewed as helping, the response to such suggestions is hostile.

Only the attackers here use words and distortion, not fists and feet.

It is illogical to argue logic with someone unwilling to examine more than his/her feelings on a matter.

You consider disagreement to amount to "battery"?

    Wow.

This is a *14 year old girl* and *men* - not rowdy kids, or teens.

Not unless you have different meanings for disagreement and "on a lesser level."

Attacks go beyond disagreement, and I don't think I need to explain "on a lesser level."  seems pretty clear that it doesn't amount to as much, given the use of lesser.

But, in case you missed it, (and I am guilty of missing things) I hope this makes it more clear.

Analogy doesn't mean equal.  It means similar.

My question is how can you tell?  A group of 18 or 19 year old men are both teens and men.  The article is not clear, so it's entirely possible that such a group WOULD look like a group of rowdy teens.

Likewise, many early teen girls go to great lenghts to look older.

So it's entirely plausible that such a scene would like as suggested.

None of that should be taken as either excusing it, or saying it was OK, or that it's even what happened.  None of us really know any more details than were presented in the story, and it's pretty vague when it comes to details.  There are plausible scenarios where such doubts would be present.

Such doubt may cause on-lookers pause, until they can figure out that it's not a game, but an attack on that girl.

It is illogical to argue logic with someone unwilling to examine more than his/her feelings on a matter.
