First it addresses the many issues related to international, private domestic, and foster care adoption. Secondly, it exists to encourage the body of Christ in how to meet the needs of orphans and waiting children through the local church. Thirdly, it provides a great place to interact with other adoptive parents about the issues related to parenting an adopted child and functioning as an adoptive or foster family. Please join us as we discuss a topic that is at the very heart of God.

Why NOT adopt?

I readily admit that I am a "pro-adopter", someone that has adopted and sees the huge and incredible blessing that adoption can be to any family. When I look at my son - now 4 years old - it's tough to think about how life would be without him around. Although the Lord has blessed us with 3 biological kids, He has done a great thing in our family, opening our eyes to so much beyond what we could otherwise ever expect to enjoy.

All that being said, my question to those that are not looking down that path is simple: Why not adopt? Have you seriously considered it as an alternative? And if not, why not?

This is not meant to be a slam on those that have purposefully considered it and decided it was not God's leading, but is a means to initiate dialogue around the basic decision-making process.

Blessings!

Random thoughts on Adoption

My husband and I are currently in the process of filling out the necessary paperwork to be able to adopt. We've been married for nearly 4 years and have been trying to have kids naturally for 3 years. We've found a really great organization to work with and we have been blessed by a woman named "Joy." All we have left is to finish our profile or scrapbook and then we'll have everything completed...

Meanwhile, I have a sister who knows of a woman who wants to give up her baby due to unfortunate circumstances. She has been talking with this woman to see if she has an adoption plan. However, her conversations haven't really led anywhere. I'm sure it's hard to be on that side of the adoption process (the person giving up a child)...but it is so hard to wait if you're childless and wanting children so badly. It's hard to know how to handle your emotions...excitement, hope, disappointment, sympathy, and sometimes guilt for wanting someone's child so badly. So far my husband and I have been trying to be faithful to pray for the birthparent(s) having to make adoption plans for their children...that has helped us to be more sensitive to their situation & help manage our emotions. But it is hard to wait. I find myself dealing with a range of emotions...

I find myself thinking of what more I can do...but then I realize, it's in God's hands and that I should be still...and wait on God....

Anyone else in the adoption process dealing with a range of emotions??

Anyone Else?

Hello!

I thought I'd be the first one to post here. My dh and I have recently started the adoption process. We will be starting our homestudy this week!! We are in a Domestic Infant program through a Christian Agency. We are very excited to watch God work.

I would love to "meet" anyone else who has adopted, thinking of adopting or are in the process of adopting!!!

Anyone else part of this journey?

Question

I had a discussion with my pastor, and I have a question. He said that all ministry is focused on the body of Christ and helping his people to grow. Is adopting a ministry or isn't it? Please explain why it is or is not.
