September 8: National Keep Your Child at Home Day

President Obama will address schoolchildren on Tuesday, September 8. Our school principal informed us that his message will be broadcast in the classrooms and in the lunchroom.
Parents across the country are rebelling against plans by President Obama to speak directly to their children through the classrooms of the nation's public schools without their presence, participation and approval.

O.k., not long after I posted this, I saw a report on FoxNews about this very concern. The White House withdrew the call for students to "help" Obama. Critics claimed he was trying to indoctrinate our children here in America. We will be able to preview the video speech Monday on the Department of Education website. We'll see...

Re: September 8: National Keep Your Child at Home Day

This was a debate in our home over the weekend. :)

I read the transcript & wasn't alarmed by anything said by the president.  My H is completely against this though...he feels the president has no business taking time up on a busy first day for our kids.  He doesn't have a lot of trust & faith in our president & quite frankly neither do I.

However, I wanted to know what was going to be said first.  Just because we don't agree w/him doesn't mean we need to show disrespect by walking out on him...which is what our girls were instructed to do by my H.  He has since softened up on that stance.

He called the school this morning, told them that if our children decide not to watch the video they will walk out & go to the office.  We were told they could go to the library and did not have to view the video.  In the end he & I decided to leave the decision up to our oldest 3 girls...our 2nd youngest won't be in school today, her day starts tomorrow.  I think they'll show the speach tomorrow for the elementary...I've decided to leave the decision of whether our 11 y/o watches it up to my hubby...he's still thinking on it.

FTR President Bush (sorry not sure which one) & President Regan both gave first day of school speaches.

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground...
