    Testing Finally Approved!!

I just wanted to share with you all my good news. Hospice is finally going to do all the testing I have been fighting for regarding my Dad's confusion problems. whatever the outcome of the tests, I can lay my worries to rest, either it is just part of the disease process, or it is something maybe we can FIX. Either way, it is peace of mind for me. I am so glad I did not give up on this, if anything would have happened to my Dad I would never have forgiven myself. Now I can say, I did every single thing I could have done for my father.
He was so very confused today, but his cold and cough are much better, he is so strong it is amazing!! And he eats like a horse! Confused or not, I still have him and still love him more than ever!

Let's home that they can diagnose and treat his confusion. What a difficult journey!

Diane, GOOD 4 U that you kept 'fighting for' your dad and now they're doing testing for confusion. You're such a blessing to him.... Sadly, patients sometime really need an advocate who will be insistent ... old saying, it's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.

Such a good thing that you write abt it also, bcz it gives others on this site the knowledge that it really does pay off not to give up. Bless U.

    Re: Testing Finally Approved!!

Today the test results came back. All of the lab work and oxygen levels are within normal limits. So I guess one can only assume from this point that it is disease related. His confusion is getting worse, and I don't know how much more confused a person can get without their body giving out on them somehow. I don't know how that works, but thats what it has come down to. I just tried to talk to my mom about it because she worked in this field for 25 years but she refuses to discuss it. So, I'll just suck it up like everything else.
They are also discontinuing the Decadron because they say his appetite is ferocious he's more agitated and pacing the halls all the time. I am dreading tomorrow's visit. He is not in touch with reality at all anymore, but the body just keeps going and going. I don't get it. I'm just as confused as Dad with all this.

    Re: Testing Finally Approved!!

So sorry Diane. I know this was not the news you hoped for. Having an Aunt who passed from Alzheimers I know how painful this confusion your Dad suffers is on the family. Oddly enough my cousin, my Aunts primary care giver, also refused to discuss the issues. It was very difficult for the rest of the family to try to help her, or understand what was happening. My Mom finally said it just must be the only way she felt she could cope? I'm praying for strength for you & your family.
