From Washington State:
We just received a call from the Governor's office that she has signed a proclamation recognizing September 26th as Mesothelioma Day in the State of Washington. Pat Dyherman also got the City of Puyallup (pu-al-up) to issue a proclamation as well as Pierce County. In Pat's absences, she is in the Netherlands) Teresa and I are meeting with the Pierce County Council to personally pick up the proclamation. The City of Tacoma is in the process of issuing a proclamation. Yipee!
I was very pleased how receptive our state Senators' and represenatives were to our cause. It was very heart warming. Their concern too is that mesothelioma become more than just a TV advertisement.
I will be watching today's news and web sights to find out what media statements will be issued from the Governor's office. Jeni also tells me that Senator Murray is working on a National Mesothelioma Awareness Day. The Foundation's data was very informative and helpful. Pierce County and Kittitas County are among the twenty counties in the country with the highest malignant mesothelioma rates. Pat Dyherman, Teresa and I live in Pierce County. Diana Stewart
