    Question ...white blood cells

Guy was in the hospital a week or so ago with pneumonia. He is now on the mend with follow up chest scan for may 7th. Nurse calls today to tell us his whit blood cell count is elevated. We had lab work and visit on Thursday. They said his lungs sound great . Could the count be due to Meso or am I just jumping to conclusions. I am a little nervous now. Any input would be appreciated. We do not see Dr. Sugarbaker until August. He had a clen c scan in Feb.

    Re: Question ...white blood cells

Hi Kathy, sorry to hear about the pneumonia. WBCs can be elevated due to inflammation, steroids, viral or bacterial infections in addition to mesothelioma. I suspect it is due to his pneumonia or medications used to treat this condition. Some of the inhallers and breathing treatments also contain steroids. Hopefully this will just be a small blip in the road

I can certainly understand that. Always was the first fear, but also the best way to keep on it. Best wishes.

Diane your picture holding your dads hand is very powerful. I am glad that you have chosen this to represent who you are and the loving care that you gave to your dad during his illness. Your big heart shines through in that photo.
