Great news, Results from Clinical Trial at NIH

Finally, some good news. After a rough first cycle, but much better 2nd cycle, this week my wife did all the blood tests, CT and PET Scans, etc after her 2nd cycle of the SS1P clinical trial. On Wednesday we found out that she is the first person in this study to be able to go on to the 3rd cycle. No one had made it past the first 2 cycles because of health issues, or they developed the anti-body against the SS1P.  Then they told her that her CT Scans have shown so much improvement that they are just overjoyed with the outcome of this treatment, so far.  Kristi's CT Lung scans show an approx. 70% reduction in the cancer mass around her lung.  We seen the scans and the amazement in the faces of Dr Hassan and the others.  This is just wonderful, wonderful news and something we all have been praying and hoping for.
They are ready for her to move on with the 3rd cycle now, but her only minor issue is that the white blood counts are a little low and they are giving her a few days for that to correct itself some before continuing on with the program.  She also has to drink lots and lots of fluids each day to stay hydrated and at times has problems with that.  She has started the the 3rd cycle as of today (Friday).

So, I wanted to share with you all our news and to let you know that this clinical trial "may be the one" that could help with some success. While it may not work for everyone, it is showing some positive results now and is worth a look if you are looking into a trial. The only unknown now is what is the long term going to be?  But lets look at the positive side right now, SOME VERY GOOD NEWS and we will take it!!!!

We are so excited with the news, I just wanted to share it with you all.   I hope and pray that things are working out for each and every one of you going through this dreaded and terrible cancer.
Hope to see ALL of you at the Symposium this summer, I believe it is in July this year at the same location.

p.s. Dr Hassan and his collegues are smiling with joy about the results they have seen this week. They have been excellent and very concerned with this treatment.

Wonderful news! Thank you so much for sharing this news! We often hear about trials beginning but to often never know what the results are or if patients participating have good, or bad, results.  It's so important to get this news as it offers hope. Prayers for continued good results & please, keep us posted.

Re: Great news, Results from Clinical Trial at NIH

Yes they can and if her counts were still low on Friday they were going to do that. However, the "WBC"s were up to where they were happy with them so they admitted her and moved on with the 3rd cycle. Part of this study involves "lowering" the immune system before starting the SS1P so that the body doesn't fight the new drug.  Also after the team reviewed everything, they wanted to move forward as soon as possible as long as levels were in the safe range in hopes of an even better and more response to the treatments.
    Thanks!

Re: Great news, Results from Clinical Trial at NIH

Thank you Roy for sharing this very encouraging news. My father was in another trial with Dr. Hassan but unfortunately he didn't make progress and he had to be discontinued. Dr. Hassan wanted to put him into the same trial your wife is in, I'm sure in part to her very encouraging scans, but my dad unfortunately is not able to meet the creitinine requirements due to kidney damage from a chemo he was on earlier. Having had my dad in the care of Dr. Hassan and his very caring team, I know how forunate your wife is to be in his care. I pray that your wife will continue to make even more wonderful progress and futher the hope we all have for a cure someday. Best to you both. Re: Great news, Results from Clinical Trial at NIH

SS1P Cycle 4 of this clinical trial started today (March 29) for Kristi. Things are going very well and Dr Hassan requested a modification/update to the trial. Instead of being limited to only 3 cycles, it has been approved to run up to 6 as long as the patient continues to NOT develop the anti-body against the SS1P and shows results, etc.  All we can say is a BIG Thank-you to anyone who has been involved in this study, recommended it, (Mary) and all of you for your prayers, support and encouragement.
